# Create service checklists and complete them on jobs

> Build reusable templates in Settings, attach one published checklist to each service, and check off the copy that lands on each job.

A checklist is the step list your techs follow for a service. You keep reusable templates under Settings. You publish the live checklist on the service. Each new job gets its own copy of whatever is published on that service at the moment you create the job.

## Open your template library

Go to **Settings → Checklist templates**.

Templates are starting points. They are not assigned to a service by themselves. You copy a template onto a service later.

Each template row shows how many steps it has. When a template is already in use, the row also says **Used on 2 services**, with the real number. Click **New template** to open the editor. Click a template row to edit it. You can duplicate a template from the editor. Delete stays disabled while a template is already in use.

<Note>
  Older shop-wide checklist links now send you here. Build the live checklist on the service.
</Note>

## Attach one checklist to a service

Each saved service owns one checklist. Good, Better, and Best variants on that service all share it. You do not assign a checklist to a job type. The old checklist tab on the service is gone. Use the **Checklist** card instead.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Save the service first">
    Go to **Services** and open the service. If you are creating a new one, click **Save** before you add a checklist. The card says **Save the service first** until you do.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the Checklist card">
    On the service you will see a **Checklist** card. It says **All variants of this service share one checklist.** The badge shows Published, Draft, or that nothing is added yet.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create blank or use a template">
    Click **Create blank** to start empty, or **Use template** to copy a template into a draft on this service. **Edit checklist** opens the editor. **Remove** takes the checklist off the service.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add steps and publish">
    In the editor, click **Add step**. Name the step and add optional instructions. Turn on **This step is required** when the job should not complete without it. Under **Required evidence**, choose None, Photo, Video, or Photo and video. You can set a minimum number of photos or videos.

    Click **Save draft** to keep working. Click **Publish** when the list is ready. New jobs only copy a published checklist. A draft stays on the service until you publish it.
  </Step>
</Steps>

If the service has no published checklist, a new job shows **No checklist has been added to this job.**

<Tip>
  Change the service checklist when your process changes. Jobs you already created keep the copy they received.
</Tip>

## What a new job copies

When you click **Convert to Job** on an estimate, or **New Job** on the calendar, ShopWrk copies the published checklist from each service onto that job. That copy does not change if you later edit or republish the service.

## Complete items and view history

Open the job. On the overview, the **Job checklist** section sits under the services list. It is not inside notes. Customers do not see it.

Check off steps as work gets done. A completed step shows who finished it and when.

Required steps must be done before you can mark the job **Completed**. If a required step also needs a photo or video, attach that media first. The job shows **Incomplete requirements** or **Media required** until those are done. Optional steps never block completion.

If a step is later removed from the job, it still appears under **Removed steps**. History stays on the job. Removed steps do not count toward progress.

If no checklist copied onto the job, type a first step and click **Create checklist** to add one just for that job.
